Settlement and Education Partnership in Toronto (SEPT) at CCS

SEPT is a school-based program that helps newcomer students and their families settle in their schools and community. SEPT staff from CCS connects newly arrived families to various government and community services and resources. Check with your children's schools and connect with one of our SEPT workers.

Financial literacy at CCS

Financial literacy is the knowledge about money management that enables people to manage their financial lives confidently. CCS offers clients services to better understand their finances through one-on-one services and in a group setting.

English language classes at CCS

Are you interested in learning English, and are you a permanent resident, convention refugee, or protected person? This program is called Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC). CCS provides free English language classes for permanent residents, convention refugees, and live-in caregivers from beginner to advanced language levels. Classes are offered in the morning, afternoon, and evening in Mississauga, Brampton, and Scarborough, CCS offers free childminding services for children of qualified students who are eight months to 6 years of age, depending on space. LINC Home Study

Do you want to study English but cannot attend in-person classes? You can study LINC at home. To be referred to the LINC Home Study program, you must book an appointment at a Language Assessment Centre to test your English language skills and confirm your eligibility.

English as a Second Language (ESL) classes

Are you interested in learning English? ESL classes are for people with different goals and levels of English. Before you sign up: 1. Make sure it is right based on your needs, goals, and eligibility criteria. 2. Find out the type of program you need, as there are different types and if you have to pay a fee. 3. See below to learn the difference between LINC and ESL.

Enhanced Language Training (ELT)

ELT programs provide job-specific, advanced-level English training for adult newcomers. The goal of ELT is to provide language training that helps you find and keep jobs that match your skills and qualifications. ELT programs are beneficial if you are trained internationally or planning to work in skilled trades. This program generally requires you to have a CLB level of 7 and up.

Occupation Specific Language Training (OSLT)

Are you looking to improve your workplace communication skills? OSLT offers language training geared to your occupation with training and practical exercises based on actual workplace communications tasks. Before registering for classes, you will need to complete a language assessment to determine your CLB levels.

Ontario Bridge Training Program

Were you internationally trained, educated, and gained experience outside of Canada and looking to continue your career? You can enroll in bridge training programs to help you get quick access to training and supports toward a license or certificate. Literacy and Basic Skills Program

Are you 19 and older and looking to develop your reading, writing, and computer skills for more opportunities in education and employment? Visit this site to find programs in Ontario.

Things You Should Know

In Canada, both English and French are recognized as official languages under the Official Languages Act. That is why you are able to take classes in English or French.

CCS Women Resources

Access our resources to help you navigate the community and address your questions.

The resources are predominantly based within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), specifically the Peel Region. Site users are encouraged to practice due diligence regarding services and content and be especially mindful of the eligibility criteria should they choose to access any of the resources.
